President Obama Corresponds with 7th Graders from Room 213

7th Grade 'Peace' Writers Receive a Handwritten Letter from President Barack Obama in reponse to their pleas to "Give Peace a Chance"

Mr. Brad Parker, 7th Grade teachers writes:

After a unit on school and youth violence, the seventh graders wrote formal letters to President Obama about ways in which we can all help make our community and nation a better place. Instead of pointing the finger at someone or something to blame for all of these horrendous occurrences of violence in schools and streets across America, they thought of viable solutions for these problems. They began to understand that we must be the change we wish to see in the world, and even here in our community, we can make a difference. In their letters they expressed personal opinions, cited research, and showed that they too care about the future of America and that if we all come together, we can truly “give peace a chance.” Following the logic that “the pen is mightier than the sword,” the seventh graders sent these heartfelt letters to the White House with high hopes of the President personally responding to them. The result, as you will see, was more than any of us expected…
