Minutes of July 14, 2009

Organizational Meeting

Members in Attendance: Reyes, Vilchez, Brunelli, Ortega, Pagan, Cornell, Davila, Segura

Guests: None

Meeting called to order at 5:08 p.m. by Ms. Pagan

Vilchez motions for approval of agenda as posted, Cornell second the motion. Motion passed 8-0.

Segura motions for approval of previous minutes, Davila second the motion. Motion passed 8-0.

Ms. Pagan is temporary chairperson

Ms. Vilchez is temporary secretary

OLD BUSINESS:

Ms. Pagan-with correspondence to the dismissal of Mrs. Brunelli previously; her 3rd absence was a special meeting and she is still an active member of the LSC…our apologies.

Still no volunteers for PTA

NEW BUSINESS:

Mr. Ortega:

96.1% attendance rate

Teacher attendance went from 92% to 94%

The school will continue with teacher and student incentives to increase attendance.

LSC is invited to attend the first week of professional development.

Our scores were good and Ms. Vilchez will present data to all members who would like to attend the first week of professional development.

Hired 1 male special education teacher and a primary special education teacher. Ms. Ruiz is now a permanent member of our school and Ms. Vaccaro will return as our bilingual coordinator. LSC member were present for the interview process.

Free Breakfast for All-for the upcoming school year. The kids will eat in their classrooms and by 9:00 am the janitorial staff will begin to collect garbage bags. It should be nice for all students and see how it goes this year with the hope of continuing.

Would like LSC to be part of things going on in the school.

Water fountains are now working for the upcoming school year.

Davila-fence is peeling and wants to know if it will ever be repainted.

Mr. Ortega addressed-It is possible but it has to be done under capital improvement. The LSC would be required to go downtown and attend a capital improvement hearing to make their case to make it happen.

PPLC-will have to be up and running by September.

Candy Sale-to happen early in September; funds to go for all student incentives and assemblies.

Vilchez motions for approval of candy sale, Segura second the motion. Motion passed 8-0.

Ms. Pagan-proposed to form an 8th grade committee to help raise funds for 8th grade functions.

Ms. Vilchez-8th grade functions are still pending. More information to come.

4th-6th grade science assembly, “Science in Motion,” to happen soon.

Ms. Pagan nominates herself for chairperson.

Mr. Ortega nominates Ms. Segura for chairperson, Ms. Segura declines.

Ms. Davila nominates Ms. Brunelli for chairperson, and Ms. Brunelli accepts

By majority vote 4-3, Ms. Pagan is now chairperson.

Ms. Pagan nominates Ms. Vilchez for secretary,

All in favor 8-0, Ms. Vilchez is now secretary.

Public Comments:

None

Next LSC meeting is Wednesday, September 16, 2009 at 5:00 pm in the multi-purpose room. *Correction date has been moved to Thursday, September 17, 2009.

Meetings will now be the second Wednesday of every month in addition to several other dates within some months.

LSC regular meeting dates sent to the Board:

October 14, 2009, November 4, 2009, December 9, 2009, Jan 13, 2009, February 10, 2009, March 10, 17, 18, 2009 (SIPAAA), April 14, 15 (Principal Evaluation), May 12, 2009, June 2, 2009, and July 7, 2009 (Organizational Meeting)

All meetings will start at 5:00 pm

Ms. Pagan motions for approval of all dates and times, Mr. Ortega second the motion. Motion passed 8-0.

A motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Vilchez and seconded by Brunelli. Motion passed 8-0. The meeting was adjourned at 6:10pm.
