Maps can serve many different purposes. Instead of showing all the information about one place on one map, the information is divided up into separate maps. This makes it easier to read.

Examples of types of maps are: Political maps (show boundaries of countries, states, cities...), Physical maps (shows what the land is like), Road maps (shows how to travel/ roads), Population map (shows how many people live in an area), and Economic map (shows what products are from different areas).
