Middle Years Programme (MYP)
The MYP is a challenging framework for students aged 11-16 that encourages them to make practical connections between their studies and the real world through inquiry-based learning that focuses on international-mindedness. The MYP is a five-year programme, which can be implemented in a partnership between schools. Locke Elementary sixth through eighth-grade students are enrolled in years 1-3 of the programme, and have the option of continuing in the MYP year 4-5 levels at Steinmetz College Prep.
The MYP curriculum has eight subject groups that provide a broad and balanced education, requiring students to have at least 50 hours of instruction in each year of the programme. The courses offered at Locke Elementary are:
- Individuals and Societies
- Mathematics
- Sciences
- Language and Literature
- Physical Education and Health
- Design
- Language Acquisition (Spanish)
- Arts (Visual and Performing)
