Community Service

The goal of the Locke School IB MYP community service program is to encourage students to implement service as action in the community. Community service allows students to develop an awareness of needs in various communities and address those needs through service learning. Students need to seek opportunities for community service, whether it’s joining a club at Locke School, helping at a Chicago Public Library, or assisting in a community event. It’s a great way to get experience and to explore possible careers.

All sixth through eighth-grade students are encouraged to complete 40 hours of community service by the time they graduate. Students can obtain a signature from the adult supervising the hours to verify the hours worked in the Locke School Community Service booklet. Without the signature from the supervising adult, the hours do not count.
